Apple has introduced a support program for iPhone 6 Plus owners, which is offering to repair “Touch Disease” found in iPhone 6 Plus devices. But the phone owner has to pay $149 to repair the device. Prior to this support program, Apple is used to forcing the customers to buy a new iPhone device instead of fixing Touch Disease. Although, Apple has started the repair program for infected devices, but refused to consider it a manufacturing defect, instead claimed it owner’s mistake.

Touch Disease:

The problem of Touch Disease is characterized by a gray, curling bar at the top of the display, which causes to malfunction the touch of the device and in worst cases the touchscreen of the iPhone becomes unresponsive. This touchscreen defect was found in many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices. The name “Touch Disease” was given to this flaw by the hardware-repair company iFixit, who also published a report revealing the real cause of the Touch Disease.

iFixit found in its testing that the problem arises due to the Touch IC Chips (it is a chip that sit inside the device and interacts between the screen and user’s touch inputs), these chips can crack over the time and can affect the touch function of the smartphone. In Worst scenarios, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus could lose all touch functionality. This issue was identified by iFixit in August, but Apple largely remains a silent spectator in this regard.

Apple Support Program:

After few months, Apple has finally introduced a support program to fix Touch Disease, but the owners have to pay $149 in terms of repairing cost. Despite the iFixit analysis report and user’s demands, Apple is not considering Touch Disease a flaw, instead termed it as User’s mistake. Apple has listed following statements in the support program:

“Apple has determined that some iPhone 6 Plus devices may exhibit display flickering or Multi-Touch issues after being dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then incurring further stress on the device.”

“If your iPhone 6 Plus is exhibiting the symptoms noted above, is in working order, and the screen is not cracked or broken, Apple will repair your device for a service price of $149.”

Moreover, Apple will also issue a reimbursement to anyone who paid full price for a replacement for the same problem. The reimbursement amount will equal the difference between the amount affected customers paid for fix and $149.

So, the iPhone 6 Plus facing Touch Disease, can now be repaired from Apple but the owner of the device has to pay $149 for it.

What do you think of this decision by Apple???
