Apple Offers New Battery for iPhone 6s Phones facing Unexpected Shutdown Problems

Apple has started a battery replacement program for iPhone 6s devices, which are affected by shutdown issues. This problem was first reported last week by a Chinese consumer protection group, when there are number of iPhone 6s owners complained about this issue. Now, Apple has acknowledged this issue and offers new battery for such iPhone 6s devices. Moreover, Apple has stated this is not a safety issue and will be solved after replacing the battery.
Support Program for iPhone 6s:
Today, Apple officially initiating this support program for iPhone 6s phones, which are facing unexpected Shutdown issue. These unexpected shutdowns were said to happen when the device’s battery charge dropped to between 60 and 50 percent. Apple cited following statement on its official website:
Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.
If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device's serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.
Replacement Process:
The iPhone device will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order. However, Apple’s wireless carrier partners are not participating in this battery replacement program, so, the eligible users have to contact Apple retail stores, authorized service providers or Apple’s technical support to initiate the replacement program. As cited on the Apple website, to prepare your iPhone 6s for the battery replacement process, please follow the steps below:
- Back up your data to iTunes or iCloud.
- Turn off Find my iPhone
- Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings
Note: If your iPhone 6s has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.
