Battery is the most important component of a phone. In fact, a phone is useless without a stable battery, because the activeness of the phone is directly proportional to the battery. Although the battery technology has progressed a lot and the phones using them have become smarter too, but there comes a point when a phone battery gradually lost its charging capacity over the time. Lithium based batteries, which are mostly used in phones these days, usually starting to lose their charge capacity in a time span of 1 to 2 years. You can watch out for certain signs, if these appear with your phone, then there is high chance that your battery is faulty and you should replace it with a good one.
Inspect Phone Battery:
You can judge if a battery is healthy or faulty, by just observing the phone battery. This does not require any technical knowledge or other expertise to inspect battery. If you have a removable battery, than simply take it out after turning off the phone and watch out for symptoms like bulging, deterioration. If you find out any of the signs, it means that your phone battery is faulty and you should change it as soon as possible. However, if you do not find any symptoms from your naked eye, you can perform a very popular Spin Test method, to know the battery health of the phone. To perform this test, you should have a removable battery. Simply remove the battery from phone and lay it on a flat surface. Than casually flick one of the battery corners with your finger, and let the battery spin freely, if the battery is fine it will stop immediately. But if battery spins freely like a top, then it has "failed" the spin test and needs to be replaced. A spinning battery means it has a bulge, because a bulged battery will be thicker in middle than its corners, that’s why it will spin freely.
Battery Depletes Quickly:
You cannot figure out the health of every battery by just observing the battery. There are other signs as well which indicates that your smartphone battery might be the faulty one. One of them is the battery percentage depletes quickly. To check this, charge your phone to its full capacity and note the time in which your phone battery drains entirely. Than compare this time with the phone’s manufacturer quoted time. If your battery depletes earlier than the quoted time you should think of replacing it.Lithium based batteries are mostly used in phones these days. These batteries started to lose their full charge capacity after a particular number of charge cycles. So, the batteries which are approaching towards the end of their life cycle, tends to drain faster and faster.
Other Symptoms:
You can also look for few other symptoms like the followingBattery is overheating too often:
Another sign of faulty battery is, it overheats too often than the normal battery. Heat and phone battery often go hand in hand. The phone battery may heat up a little bit, during the normal usage e.g. browsing internet or playing games, it is quite normal. But a faulty battery may overheat during the normal usage of the phone. Overheating is relatively bad as it can also damage the chipset, you should consider changing the battery as soon as possible.Phone takes longer time in charging:
Faulty batteries usually takes longer time to reach their full capacity. If you feel that phone is taking longer time in charging, you can compare it with the quoted time listed by the manufacturer for that particular phone.
