Google’s pixel phones, unveiled last month, are enjoying dream run in markets and admired by critics as well. Pixel is running latest Nougat version of Android OS and a bunch of other cool features. One of them is a simple Fingerprint Scanner Gesture that allows you to "swipe" the scanner to access the notification shade. Google’s previous devices, Nexus 6p and 5x are also offered latest Nougat update but this swipe feature is missing. Now, Google is evaluating a Firmware Update to add fingerprint gesture support to Nexus 6p, 5x.

Firmware Update:

This Fingerprint Scanner Gesture is not fancy or has not any major benefits but still anticipated by many Nexus users with Nougat update. Earlier it was thought that this feature is not working due to sensor’s hardware differences in Pixel and Nexus. But now it has been figured out that the premium Nexus 6p and 5x have implanted with the same senor which is in Pixel.

After some confusion, Google has pointed out that the firmware version of fingerprint scanner of Nexus 6p and 5x is not capable of supporting swipe gesture. That is the reason the Nexus devices are not supporting swipe gesture despite Nougat update. Google's PR has told to Android Police ‘they are "evaluating" a firmware update for the Nexus 5X and 6P to add support for the fingerprint scanner gesture of the Pixels.’

When Will Nexus Devices get Firmware Update:

Google is evaluating the firmware update does not mean that it is going to happen soon. It means they are planning to do so. Google has not disclosed any further development or estimated date of firmware update. Whenever there is any further announcement on the firmware update issue, we will let you know.
