Qualcomm has improved its battery charging technology by introducing Quick Charge 4, which is said to be faster and efficient charging technology. Qualcomm's Quick Charge is the leading fast charging standard in mobile industry, which is compatible with over 100 phones and will be targeting more smartphones with latest improvement. The Quick Charge will be available commercially with the next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which is also introduced today.
Quick Charge 4 Details:
The Quick Charge 4 is designed according to industry’s fluctuating trends and latest innovations. While Comparing with the existing Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, the latest Quick Charge 4 is up-to 20 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient, while charging up to 5° C cooler. Qualcomm has adopted a new measurement that helps in explaining new technology rather simply.
Qualcomm Technologies have name it 5 for 5, as 5 minutes of charging can get you 5 hours or more of battery life, which will be extra-ordinary if this can be implemented in real world. Quick Charge 4 is engineered to charge a typical smartphone from zero to 50% in about 15 minutes or less.
Quick Charge 4 also supports latest USB-C and USB-PD (Power Delivery) technologies as Google also recommended the use of USB-PD for fast charging. Due to the recent incidents of smartphone catching fire, many have question the efficiency and implementation of fast charging technology. To cop these objections and to ensure smartphone’s safety, Qualcomm has introduced new power management ICs, and bundling new safety measures in Quick Charge 4, as multiple additional layers of protection added to help prevent battery over-charging. Protection is implemented at multiple levels and throughout the entire charging process to more accurately measure voltage, current, and temperature of the battery and device.
The newly introduced Quick Charge 4.0 will be available with the Snapdragon 835, which is expected to release in first half of 2017.
