Statistics from third Quarter shows Samsung still remains the Market Leader in smartphones despite the Galaxy Note 7 woes. Samsung is comfortably ahead of the rival vendors, in spite of recalling all its Galaxy Note 7 sold devices. Although Samsung remains front-runner but the data also indicates that Samsung saw decline in the shipments comparing to 3Q of last year. This result shows that the top five brands remain unchanged compared to 3Q of 2015.
Third Quarter Statistics:
These statistics are published by a well-known Research Firm International Data Corporation (IDC) and covers the time span of third quarter. According to IDC, the smartphone vendors shipped a total of 362.5 million devices worldwide in third quarter, volumes were up 1.0% compared to third quarter of 2015 when vendors shipped 359.3 million units worldwide.
Samsung remains at top place despite the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco as it shares the 20% of all shipped units and sold 72.5 million devices in 3Q of 16 (Note: IDC's totals for Samsung exclude Galaxy Note 7 shipments for both recalled and unsold devices in 3Q16). In the 3Q15, Samsung had enjoyed a significant 23.3% share by shipping 83.8 million units. Decline in shipment volume is obviously due to the Galaxy Note 7 failure. Apple remains at second place by shipping 45.5 million units and gain a 12.5% market share. Apple also facing a decline in sales as it shipped 48 million units in 3Q15. The other 3 contenders in the list are Chinese vendors and they all saw a huge boost to their sales. Huawei grabbed the third place with 9.3% share and it sold 33.6 million units. Thanks to Flagship P9 and a high end device honor V8, Huawei enjoy a boost in its sales by a significant margin of 23.0%.
OPPO remains at 4th place by gaining a share of 7.0% and boosted its sales by a huge margin of 121.6% comparing to the 3Q15. Another Chinese Vendor, Vivo remains at 5th place by gaining a share of 5.7% and saw a huge 102.5% boost to its sales.
Samsung as Front-Runner:
These numbers indicate Samsung has not faced any difficulties in shorter run and remains at top place even with the galaxy Note 7 failure. But this may hit the company’s reputation in longer run. Samsung has to play really well to gain back the trust of its customers.
