Nokia which ruled the world mobile market for nearly 14 years is now vanished from Mobile industry. Many people around the world are questioning that a company which dominated the business for more than a decade is gone in 3 to 4 years. What went wrong for Nokia in short span of time that it has been completely failed to deliver and eventually disappeared. Well, there are many reasons which leads Nokia to failure but here we will discuss the costly mistakes made by Nokia

1

Failed to respond Fluctuating Trends:

When Nokia was a giant in mobile business in early 2000s it had introduced many new trends in market which were effective and appreciated by the mobile fans that’s why Nokia able to maintain lead over the competitors. But in late 2000s Nokia as a company failed to recognize the rapid changing trends in mobile world which. With the introduction of fully touch screen smartphone by Apple in 2007, Nokia did not come up with anything equal to touch screen. On the other hand Samsung, HTC also introduced their touch screen smartphones running on Android OS which makes the competition even stiffer for Nokia. Nokia realized too late that they have to come up with a touch screen smartphone. Eventually when Nokia released first smartphone it was too late for them to regain their audience which moved towards other brands.

Inefficient Symbian OS:

Symbian OS was introduced and used by Nokia in its mobile devices in early 2000s. At that time it brought a real success for Nokia. Nokia enjoyed a boost in mobile phone sales after the Symbian OS. But instead of working on new OS for smartphones, Nokia stick to innovations in Symbian OS like OVI Store etc. With the release of iOS in 2007 and later Android OS in 2008, Symbian OS is simply not good enough to compete. The former two OS were really changed the dynamics of industry and the real implementation of Smartphone is made possible. When Apple and Samsung came out with the touch screen smartphones, they showed the industry what the mobile phone could be done. On the Other hand Symbian is just a standard OS and is better for Bar phones. Symbian OS has no competitive features when comparing to iOS or Android. Nokia does not have an alternative to smartphones which really dumped the business of Nokia.

Windows Phone OS:

After the failure of Symbian OS, Instead of adopting to Android OS, Nokia planned to release its smartphone running Windows Phone OS in 2011-2012 under the Lumia Series. Which proved to be really a fatal mistake for Nokia. Because iOS and Android OS were matured at that time and Windows Phone OS is in early days at the time of release. The fans of Nokia were expecting to use a better OS than iOS and Android OS but windows OS have too many bugs in it. After the constant failure of Windows OS smartphones Nokia released smartphone running Android but it is too little too late for them. If Nokia has adopted Android OS in time, it may have succeeded in regaining its customers.

Losing on Both Ends:

Nokia has made fabulous devices in low-range like the legendary Nokia 1100, 1110 etc. These devices made a huge fan following for Nokia. When Nokia was struggling to hold market in smartphone range, it ignored or pay little attention towards low range devices, which resulted in declining sales of low-range phones. Other brands like ZTE, Huawei has captured the market of low-range mobile devices and Nokia started to lose battle in low priced mobiles.

Lack of Right Flagship Strategy:

Apple was the first brand to launch its Umbrella series under the name of iPhone, later Samsung and other brands also launch their flagship models. Nokia had initially launch flagship series under the name of N series and later Lumia series. Although the mobile devices launched under Lumia series have good hardware specifications but the lack of right strategy hurts the Nokia badly. Due to inefficient marketing of Lumia devices, Nokia has failed to create hype and buzz in customers, as a result of which Lumia phones did not capture good sales.

However, great news for fans as Nokia is returning to Mobile business in the last quarter of 2016. Nokia has announced few smartphones running Android OS, will be launched in the end of 2016.
