What Happened:

The news of Samsung Note 7 battery explosion has spread like wildfire and now Samsung has admitted that the incidents of battery explosion are real and reported to them. According to sources, 35 such incidents have been reported till now, which is very alarming and surprising to Samsung and fans. However, Samsung has launched an investigation saying, that they will look deeply into this matter. Also, Samsung has announced Galaxy Note 7 recall policy, which will be started from US. According to different experts, Galaxy Note 7’s battery explosion are occurring due a fault in the battery. This incident related to Galaxy Note 7, which is a high end premier device, has triggered many questions about battery technology used by Samsung. Because, currently Samsung is leading phone manufacturer and this type of incident can question the credibility of its manufactured devices. As this battery defect can be proved very risky to human health. Following are the images of Note 7, which were shared on a Chinese web Network by a Note 7 user.

Why is explosion occurring:

The battery technology used in Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion). You can view the qualities and defects of Lithium-Ion battery here. Lithium-Ion battery technology is quite reliable and widely used in smartphones, but this battery has a rear chance of exposition. In case of Note 7, the cause of battery explosion is most probably “Heat”.
As, Severe Heat can cause the short circuit with in the battery, which leads battery to failure. Various effected users have stated, this incident occurred when they were charging their device. As smartphones don’t have cooling fans or other cooling mechanism to bring down the climbing temperatures of phone batteries. Instead, modern smartphones have different safety measures like Battery Management System to protect the battery from heat effect. When the phone battery is fully charged, this system acts to stop further flow of current in battery and reduces the chances of over-heating. When this system fails, the battery can be enter into state called “overcharge”.
There are various other reasons which causes the battery to cope with the issue of “Extreme Heat”. One reason is that, the smartphones are becoming slimmer and the multiple running processes on them (due to fast processors and RAM) generates heat. Another reason is Quick Charging feature, which was introduced in smartphones to consume less time in charging bigger batteries. If the battery management systems are properly working, the battery is charged quickly and no extreme heat generated. But if management system fails to manage the battery during Quick Charge, than there are higher chances of Extreme Heat initiation, due to the fast transfer of current in the battery.
But Galaxy Note 7 has good overall design and management system which manages the resources of the phone very well. In fact, this failure is due to the faulty battery, which is not being able to hold the flow of current during charging, this causes the battery to encounter the extreme heat and the explosion may occur. The inclusion of faulty battery in such a premier device originates many question for Samsung to deal with. Irrespective of reason, Samsung has to face the consequences caused by this negligence and the goodwill of Samsung devices will be questioned.
