Apple unveils new iMac with M6 — up to 18× faster than Intel models, 7 colors
What's new
Apple has announced the new iMac powered by the M6 chip. The all-in-one desktop is available to pre-order from October 28, with general availability starting November 6, 2026. It comes in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver.
M6 chip: performance and AI
The iMac with M6 features up to a 12-core CPU — two more cores than the previous generation — delivering what Apple calls the world's fastest single-threaded CPU performance. For users upgrading from the most popular Intel-based iMac, Apple claims up to 18x faster overall performance.
The GPU includes Neural Accelerators in each core, and together with the dual 16-core Neural Engine, the new iMac delivers up to 5x faster on-device AI performance compared to the M4 chip. This enables Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features across apps and macOS, running local AI models, and developer workflows — all with on-device privacy.
Connectivity and storage
The new iMac adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, with an optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. Storage is up to 2x faster than before, so apps and large projects launch more quickly.
Display, camera and audio
The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (4480 × 2520) supports one billion colors and 500 nits brightness. The camera system includes a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View. Audio comes from a six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers and spatial audio support, plus a three-mic array with directional beamforming.
Ports and accessories
Up to four Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports are available. The box includes color-matched Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Magic Mouse (or Magic Trackpad). The power adapter includes the Ethernet port option.
macOS 27
The iMac ships with macOS 27, bringing the latest Apple Intelligence features, enhanced Siri AI, and new productivity tools across the system.
