PROLED XDR: Tandem OLED arrives on Mac

Apple has introduced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, marking the first use of tandem OLED technology in a Mac. The display stacks two self-illuminating pixel layers with innovations in every layer, driven by an advanced display engine that provides sub-millisecond pixel control and real-time compensation for content, temperature, and environment.

Key specifications include 2000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content, an industry-leading 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 10Hz\u2013120Hz ProMotion adaptive refresh rates. For the first time on MacBook Pro, the display covers both P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts with a single default preset, and exceeds 80% Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR video editing.

A nano-texture option etches the anti-reflective coating directly into the cover glass, while factory calibration ensures every panel meets precise consistency standards. Professional workflows gain Apple Pro Display Calibrator for custom targets, industry-standard reference modes (Cinematic, Photography, Print, Design), DICOM medical imaging modes, and Genlock support for virtual production.

Touch comes to Mac for the first time

In a historic shift, the new MacBook Pro introduces Touch input built directly into the display panel \u2014 not layered on top \u2014 delivering minimal latency. A redesigned hinge provides greater stability during touch use, and advanced video stabilization smooths the camera feed during video calls while using Touch.

Supported gestures include swipe to scroll webpages, pinch to zoom photos, drag-and-drop to move slides between presentations, double-tap to fill screen, and flick to tile windows into place. This transforms workflows for graphic designers (entire display as canvas), musicians (onscreen software instruments), developers (testing iOS\/iPadOS touch apps directly), and 3D artists (direct model manipulation).

App support arriving later in 2026 spans productivity (Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Office suite), creative (Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve), 3D (Blender, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Shapr3D), music (djay Pro), and Apple's own apps including Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro with Multi-Touch polyphonic keyboard, and Final Cut Pro with pinch-to-zoom and clip dropping.

Dynamic Island expands to Mac

The Dynamic Island makes its Mac debut as a new home for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI. It enables quick search across the Mac, real-time updates at a glance, and one-tap actions for AirDrop, music control, and call pickup.

Thinner, lighter, larger displays

Both models shed weight and thickness while gaining slightly larger displays. The 14-inch model weighs 3.0 lbs (down 0.5 lbs) with a 14.2-inch display (was 14-inch) and is 0.5 mm thinner. The 16-inch model weighs 4.0 lbs (down 0.7 lbs) with a 16.3-inch display (was 16-inch) and is approximately 1 mm thinner. Slimmer display borders enable larger screens in the same footprint.

A redesigned thermal architecture sustains M5 Pro and M5 Max performance while redirecting warm air away from the display, maintaining comfort during intensive workloads.

M5 Pro and M5 Max: most powerful pro laptop chips

The M5 Pro and M5 Max are Apple\u2019s most powerful chips ever built for a pro laptop, delivering phenomenal single- and multithreaded CPU performance, faster unified memory, and up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. M5 Pro targets scientists, engineers, software developers, and creative pros handling code compilation, AI tasks, DNA sequencing, and multi-stream 8K ProRes editing. M5 Max is built for 3D VFX artists, AI developers, and film composers pushing the limits of mobile workstation performance.
