XREAL AURA launches as first Android XR glasses with Gemini
First Android XR glasses hit the market
XREAL AURA launches as the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR, Google's new operating system built for extended reality. Announced October 28, 2026, the glasses weigh under 95 grams and deliver a 70° field of view through transparent lenses that let you see the real world naturally. Orders open in the U.S., Canada, and Korea starting at $1,099 USD (through end of 2026), with Japan following November 2 and shipments beginning mid-November.
The system splits compute between the lightweight glasses and a portable puck housing the Snapdragon® Reality Elite platform — its debut appearance — plus battery and a trackpad. This architecture offloads heavy processing to the puck, enabling all-day comfort without sacrificing spatial computing performance. A USB-C port on the puck also enables wired mirroring from laptops, handhelds, or consoles.
Unbounded desktop anywhere
For work, AURA creates a multi-window spatial desktop — browser, docs, music, and chat apps can be arranged at any size around you. Input works via Bluetooth keyboard/mouse or the puck's built-in trackpad. This turns a couch, hotel desk, or airplane tray table into an instant multi-monitor setup.
Wired mirroring lets you plug a laptop via USB-C (video output) and have its screen appear as a resizable, placeable window alongside Android XR apps — no software installation required. The display is visible only to the wearer, making it safe for confidential documents in public spaces.
Gemini acts as a workspace assistant with cross-context awareness: it sees your laptop window, Android XR apps, and the real world simultaneously. You can ask it to "tidy up my windows," brainstorm, summarize, or analyze content in view. A new capability lets you share your view so Gemini can highlight focus areas on screen or in the room.
Private theater and spatial memories
For entertainment, AURA offers a private theater mode with lens dimming that fades out the world — automatically turning transparent when someone approaches. Content sources include YouTube, Google TV, and streaming services (Peacock in the U.S.), supporting 180°/360° video, 3D movies, and spatial content.
Launch content partnerships include Nevatars (co-directed by Andy Serkis and Josh Nelson Youssef), Galapagos: The Last Eden (narrated by Margot Robbie via Atlantic Studios), and Nutcracker from San Francisco Ballet. Spatial View converts any video, photo, or game to 3D with higher resolution than before, while Window Follow Mode keeps apps centered and tucks them to a mini-view at the edge when you move.
Google Photos Spatial Gallery (coming 2026) will wrap your library around you, letting you pan from year to day to opening a memory in 3D.
Arcade anywhere with Gemini gaming assistant
Gaming spans four modes: thousands of mobile/tablet games from Google Play on a giant virtual screen, wired mirroring from handhelds/PCs/consoles via USB-C, XR-native games that appear in your space with natural hand interaction, and multitasking with YouTube walkthroughs or chat open beside your game.
Gemini as gaming assistant sees your screen and talks you through next moves without putting down the controller. Launch XR games include Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, with studios Owlchemy Labs and Resolution Games onboard and more titles coming.
Gemini on Android XR: the core differentiator
Google positions Gemini on Android XR as the platform's defining feature: it understands what you're seeing and doing both in the real world and on your screens, enabling natural conversation to get help across apps. Capabilities include screen awareness (read, summarize, act on any visible window), real-world awareness (identify objects, places, text in environment), and cross-app actions that execute multi-step workflows across applications.
